About Avaz Twist Tower
The Avaz Twist Tower, developed and owned by Bosnia and Herzegovina’s largest media company, "avaz-roto press" and home to the country’s leading daily newspaper Dnevni avaz, was designed by architect Faruk Kapidžić. At 172 meters high and with 32,000 square meters of space, it is the tallest building in Southeast Europe and has been one of Sarajevo’s most recognizable landmarks since its opening in May 2009.
Its construction, completed in less than three years, engaged more than 200 companies and thousands of local workers. The tower rests on foundations 30 meters deep and required 23,000 cubic meters of concrete, three million kilograms of steel, and over 200,000 glass façade elements. Inside, more than 10,000 lighting fixtures illuminate the space, while outside the striking glass design shines as a symbol of modern Sarajevo.
The creation of the tower demonstrated the ability of Bosnian architects, engineers, and contractors to deliver work on par with global projects in New York, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Dubai. At its peak, the panoramic observation deck—reached by one of the fastest elevators in Europe at five meters per second—has welcomed up to 10,000 visitors in a single day, offering breathtaking 360° views of the capital.
Internationally recognized, the Avaz Twist Tower was ranked among the ten most beautiful buildings in the world by Schüco in 2009, a global leader in glass and aluminum façades. Today, together with the historic Baščaršija, it represents both a vibrant business hub and a must-see destination for every visitor to Sarajevo.
